The WCS-A&WMA at the 99th Annual A&WMA Annual Meeting in New Orleans

In one of our most successful A&WMA Annual Meetings ever, this year the West Coast Section (WCS) won the Minasian Award as best Section for 2005, our Channel Islands Chapter took second place in the Chapter Cup ( our Mojave Desert Chapter took fourth, and our San Diego Chapter took fifth ), and our Cal Poly San Luis Obispo Student Chapter won first place in the Medium Size University Student Chapter competition. Past Chair (2004-2005) Martin Ledwitz and current Chair Krishna Nand accepted the Minasian Award for the Section.

Garry Gasperino (Channel Islands Chapter) and Victor Engleman (San Diego Chapter) were elected to the A&WMA Board of Directors for 2007. Victor Engleman, already a Fellow member, was conferred with the title of Honorary Member. Martin Ledwitz was named the A&WMA Ambassador to SE Asia by the A&WMA President, Peter Hess, and made Chairman of the Subcommittee on Section and Chapter Awards, with Steve Menkus and Sara Head as committee members.

We have received notice that we will be presenting the formation of a WCS Student Chapter in India to the Sections and Chapters Council at the November 2006 meeting. We are currently working with A&WMA staff on the potential formation of a chapter in Chile, and are working on leads to form three potential chapters in the Arabian Gulf and a possible one in the Czech Republic during the next year.
